When Dan Wieden says, “I Wish I’d Done That,” adland is all ears. Last year, D&AD asked him which advertising campaign from the past twelve months he wished he’d done. It wasn’t DWTD. Wasn’t Men in Briefs. Wasn’t anything by Mother. Wasn’t anything with a massive media spend and a barrow full of awards in its goodie bag. It was sardonic video for activist group, 350 Action, by Barton F Graf 9000 called Climate Name Change.
Here is how its creators described it, “Since 1954, the World Meteorological Organization has been naming extreme storms after people. But we propose a new naming system. One that names extreme storms caused by climate change, after the policy makers who deny climate change and obstruct climate policy. If you agree, sign the petition at climatenamechange.org.” Havoc-causing events with politicians’ names gives you a whole lot of opportunity to make your point. See that here.
