Who would have thought that the world would wait for an ad to launch, but it has become especially true of John Lewis’ Christmas ad.
And a high school student named Nick Jablonka has inadvertently added fuel to the fire of (so) many rumours about this year’s John Lewis ad by uploading his A Levels media coursework project to YouTube.
Rumour-mongers failed to notice the June upload date and overlooked several other “John Lewis Christmas 2016 ads” on YouTube. Jablonka had copied the John Lewis style to a T. It seemed too good to be un-real.
The ad has gone viral this week, gaining more than 500k views and being re-uploaded several times by various third parties.
Jablonka has subsequently added a rider to his upload, which reads:
“I uploaded this video with no intention of it becoming so popular.
“This definetly [sic] isn’t the official John Lewis advert. I wasn’t going to upload it at all, the title and the video are as it was submitted so I really didn’t mean for the confusion. Although I really appreciate the overwhelming comments, I do believe this piece could do with a lot of work as it was done in around 2 weeks from start to finish.
“With such limited time I literally didn’t have enough time to render out the animation, so I had to sacrifice a lot of things to make it on time; the resolution, there’s virtually no shaders, and I had to reduce the amount of scenes and shot.
“To clarify, I do not affiliate myself with John Lewis or any of their production company’s, this video is nothing more than a showcase of my last year’s media work…”
Perhaps proving his worthiness to be an adman, Jablonka then adds his contact details, “If you have any further questions feel free email – nickjab@hotmail. co.uk or twitter @atnickjablonka”
