March 20 was International Happiness Day. Open Happiness was the natural message to spread that day and Coke was the obvious messenger. So the company had a go and created the Happiness Remix. It even asks, “Is This The World’s Happiest Song?” on its website.
But even Coke can come second sometimes. THIS is the world’s happiest song:
The video, using Pharrell Williams’ hit song, was submitted to the UN. Pharrell Williams is the face of International Happiness Day 2014 and to mark the second year of the United Nations-sanctioned event, Williams and the UN Foundation asked people throughout the world to submit footage of them doing whatever it is that shows they’re happy.

“Happiness may have different meanings for different people,” United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement Thursday, “but we can all agree that it means working to end conflict, poverty and other unfortunate conditions in which so many of our fellow human beings live.” International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations to further the idea that happiness is a fundamental human right and everyone deserves the chance at a happy, healthy life.
Last year, more than 3.5 million people globally participated in #HappyDay through social media, sending tweets or creating and sharing videos.
Coke’s HappinessRemix is nice. The idea behind it is nicer. Ut was created by music producers, Rock Mafia, and fuses beats, melodies and rhythms from 17 songs created by independent artists from around the globe. To find the songs for Happiness Remix, Coca-Cola worked with music licensing agency, Music Dealers, to invite emerging artists from around the globe to create a track inspired by a place of happiness.
Rock Mafia’s Tim James and Antonina Armato, music royalty. They’ve worked Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Aloe Blacc and Mariah Carey. To make sure that their song was scientifically correct, they consulted music psychologist, Professor Adrian North – author of the report ‘How to Produce Happy Music’ – on the creation of the track. “Universally, music is one of the most powerful stimulators of happiness. Different things make people happy, but there are ways, through music, to help deliberately evoke happiness through the arrangement of beats and melodies,” North stated.
“The Coca-Cola brand mission is to refresh the world and inspire moments of happiness,” added Joe Belliotti, head of global music marketing, The Coca-Cola Company. “We’re celebrating International Day of Happiness by releasing a song that we hope will literally make people feel happy. It’s up to music fans to decide, but we hope everyone enjoys listening to Happiness Remix.”
