Photos for Life is an online image bank that contains only photographs of cancer sufferers and survivors. You wouldn’t know, and that’s the idea. Isobar Poland created the photo library for charity, Rak’n’Roll Win Your Life Foundation. Rak’n’Roll is a charity organisation whose mission is to change the way society thinks about cancer and to improve the quality of life for patients.
Rak’n’Roll invited people from all over Poland to take part in the shoot, which was done by professional commercial photographers. The images show people enjoying life despite cancer. The photos are grouped into the categories you’d expect from a typical archive – hobbies, sport, nature etc, and are available for anyone to use. They are priced below average – US$75 for photography in web, magazine, and book-friendly formats, but when any of the photos is published, Photos for Life asks users to add a credit that includes an explanation and link to the Photos for Life site. You can pay to have the Photos for Life watermark added. In addition, when anyone buys one of the stock photos to use, all profits go to support therapy for cancer patients
Jacek Maciejewski, board member at Rak’n’Roll stated, “Photos for Life proves that cancer is not a death sentence. That people with cancer have a normal live (sic), families, dreams and hobbies. They celebrate life. Every minute of it. Thanks to this project we are able to make them more visible to public to inspire others.”
Rak’n’Roll’s work has included the renovation of oncological waiting rooms in order to make them more patient-friendly, and the promotion of full term pregnancies among women with cancer. The charity was founded by Magdalena Prokopowicz. During her illness, Prokopowicz married, gave birth to a boy and shared her optimistic attitude with everyone in her world.
