AMV BBDO is helping Pepsico to test possible new varieties of Walkers chips the next gen way. Walkers has been running a competition in the UK called Do Us a Flavour, in which chip fans get to invent the next varieties in its range.
To test the six finalist flavours – Steak Fajita, Chicken Curry, Pulled Pork in Sticky BBQ Sauce, Ranch Raccoon, Cheesy Beans on Toast and Hot Dog with Tomato Ketchup – AMV BBDO turned three bus stop ads in London into vending machines.
Passers-by see a series of short clips created by ACNE Production on the bus-stop screen. These feature the brand’s long-time ambassador, ex-soccer star Gary Lineker, who seems to be sitting the vending machines. If they tweet @Walkers_busstop, the digital Linkeker hands out a free packet of chips in one of six finalist flavours from the competition. They are then encouraged to vote for their favourite online. Each machine is geared up to hand out 260 bags per day.
The tweet-activated digital vending machines will operate for two weeks in high density areas – two are at bus shelters on Oxford Street and one is in Clapham underground station.
