Uncommon has appointed Scott Dungate as chief creative officer in London. Dungate’s career includes stints in the US, UK, Australia, China & Japan making work for some of the world’s biggest global brands. He will work closely with Uncommon’s founders reporting into Nils Leonard, Natalie Graeme and Lucy Jameson as well as working alongside the London studio’s team to continue to build brands people wish existed.
Dungate brings to Uncommon his relentless attention to the quality of craft, execution and storytelling in all channels and mediums. He prides himself on creating culturally impactful and innovative work that blurs the lines between entertainment and marketing, feeding fans and finding new audiences, a mission he shares with Uncommon.
For the past 10 months, Dungate has been freelancing as a creative consultant as well as directing films. Prior to that, he spent close to two decades at Wieden+Kennedy working across four different global offices. This included a 10 year stint in London, time in Shanghai and Tokyo as well as most recently leading the New York agency as CCO.
At W+K, he has worked alongside some of the industry’s most creative minds and leaders, making work for some of the world’s biggest global brands such as Nike, Honda, Netflix, Google, Budweiser and Ikea, as well as famous local UK brands, like Sainsbury’s. His work has been applauded at the industry’s top awards shows, such as D&AD, One Show and Cannes Lions, as well as gaining international press, Guinness World records, tattoos, political cartoon references, fan art and even a MOMA selection.
Dungate commented, “Uncommon is a studio built on a culture of making. They have a ferocious desire to push and apply creativity and craft into every corner they can, whether that’s design, experience, fashion, art or communication. They understand the power of work that creates fame to have a huge impact for the brands and companies they partner with.
This is what really stood out to me and attracted me to joining the studio. Uncommon want to hire creatives at all levels that aren’t afraid to get in the trenches, to help make the work better and push it into different directions. I can’t wait to get back to London and get started.”
Nils Leonard, co-founder, Uncommon, added, “Scott is a rare talent. His love of making and belief in creativity and its role in the world matches our own. Scott is the type of creative leader who is still a maker at heart and loves being in the work, working with the team. This is what we do. We couldn’t be happier he has chosen Uncommon as his next home.
“When we first started, it was our ambition to build a company that could be a lighthouse for the world’s best talent before anything else. Scott leading London’s creative output — alongside Björn Ståhl in Stockholm and Sam Shepherd in New York — presents a really exciting time for the studio’s creative vision. Levels.”
Seven years in, and now with offices in London, New York and Stockholm, Uncommon continues to make awarded and stand-out work. In 2024, the studio was included among Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies across all industries globally; ranking number one in Advertising and Marketing. It has attracted top tier clients such as British Airways, SiriusXM, ITV, WWF, Supercell, Quaker Oats, Formula E and most recently created the new brand identity and global launch for EA SPORTS FC — coined as one of the biggest rebranding exercises in entertainment history by BBC News.
