Tourism ads tend to be so enthusiastic about their destination. This one by Visit Oslo isn’t at all. Oslo local, Halfdan (actor, Benedik Aunan), begins his video tour of the city with the comment, “I wouldn’t come here…Is it even a city?”
Of course, his complaints are ironic and the visual imagery gives an enticing view of Oslo life.
“Sometimes, I just walk right in off the street and get a table. And I’m not even famous. What does that tell you?”
“Culture? Er, I don’t know. If you don’t have to stand in line for at least a couple of hours, is it even worth seeing?”


He concludes with the statement, “I think a city should feel a little hard to get. It’s like a good relationship, you know. It isn’t supposed to be easy.”
The campaign has gone viral, receiving millions of views across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. But Visit Oslo already believed it had a success in its hands. The campaign is a slight twist on one from five years ago:
