During Christmas week, Love Actually will probably be one of the most streamed movies – again. Meanwhile, Waitrose has attached itself to the film’s immense appeal with a bite-sized Love Actually romcom lookalike, and the original film’s Keira Knightley as its co-star. It’s a powerful idea for Waitrose’s first Christmas campaign.
The Christmas commercial, The Perfect Gift, by Wonderhood Studios and One Day director, Molly Manners, also stars comedian, Joe Wilkinson, and the power of Waitrose food to say I love you. Wilkinson plays Phil, who has been bound to only love again if its Keira Knightley. Knightley plays herself.
The full campaign includes the four-minute short film, a 60-second trailer and film-style OOH posters featuring Knightley and Wilkinson as true rom-com protagonists.
Wonderhood Studios won Waitrose’ social account in January 2024 and created the supplementary Christmas social content to last year’s campaign, before becoming the brand’s lead creative agency in March this year.
