Adam&Eve/DDB’s first Christmas spot for Waitrose has everything. Food glorious food, silly costumes, warm hugs, snow, Waitrose’s farmers and suppliers…Heston Blumenthal (who makes several ranges for Waitrose, like he does for Coles in Australia).
Mostly, it’s about the food.
“Our advert for Waitrose celebrates all those little moments that make Christmas, Christmas, and nine out of ten times, it’s all about the food,” Richard Brim, executive creative director of Adam&Eve, commented.
Waitrose marketing director, Rupert Thomas, added, “We celebrate with food, we unwind with food, we get to know each other with food. Delicious things to eat make the moments that matter even more memorable, especially at Christmas.”
There’s also a jazzy musical underpinning, the 1948 classic, Everybody Eats When They Come To My House by Cab Calloway and His Orchestra.
The 60 second spot ends with the line, Whatever makes your Christmas, make it with Waitrose. And this carries over into social media, where Waitrose is asking people to share what really #MakesChristmas for them.
It ran online ahead of its on air debut on November 8. The main film will be complemented by 10 second “moments”, 20 second product ads, press and digital OOH ads.
The ad was directed by Simon Ratigan and produced by HLA.
Adam & Eve/DDB won the Waitrose account in 2014, when BBH resigned it. BBH then won Tesco in January. Adam&Eve/DDB also manages Waitrose’ parent company, John Lewis.
