Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become one of Volvo’s great assets, thanks to Forsman & Bodenfors.
The relationship began in January 2014, when F&B launched its Made by Sweden campaign for Volvo cars. “Together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic we have done a celebration to Sweden. It’s our country’s unique nature that inspires and challenge the people at Volvo when they develop their cars. It’s also here, at home, in the magnificent wilderness that they find their strength. Just as Zlatan does,” the agency explained.
The film was viewed 2.3 million times in its first week.
Now F&B is focusing on Ibrahimovic himself, what makes him the athlete he is and by association what makes Volvo stand out.
“We come from a different place. So we think about cars in a different way. Ever since 1927, we’ve made cars safer. We‘ve made them easier to drive. And we’ve reduced their impact on the environment. Now, we’re launching a new Volvo where every little detail is there for a reason. Where everything we know about technology, design and safety is brought together to take your journey to the next level. With the new Volvo V90 we are entering a new era. But we will never forget where we come from,” the blurb to the 3.20 minute film called Prologue explains.
The new video, Prologue, reached 3.5 million views in 36 hours.
As beautifully filmed as its predecessor, Prologue presents the former Paris Saint-Germain striker as he prepares for a big game and reflects on his rise from humble beginnings in one of Sweden’s toughest neighbourhoods in Malmö to international sporting stardom. Ibrahimovic is currently preparing for the European Championships.
“I’m happy to be working with Volvo Cars again. I’ve seen the new cars, I’ve driven and tested them. And I think they’re fantastic. Just like me, Volvo have gone their own way and dared to think differently. The previous campaign we did was good, but this time it’s Made by Zlatan,” he commented.
“The campaign is a celebration of the independent mind, of the power that lies in the ability to think differently. There are many similarities between Zlatan’s and Volvo’s journeys. We haven’t gotten to where we are now by doing the same as everyone else,” added Anders Gustafsson, senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Volvo Car Group.
The new V90 campaign features a score by Hans Zimmer, the Academy Award-winning composer behind the scores of films such as Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Inception and Interstellar.
