These days, and even more so this year, going home for Christmas may well be virtual. In Canada, Bell has underlined the role it has played in going home for Christmas since telephones began.
The campaign, created by long time agency partner, Zulu Alpha Kilo, is a lovely trip through Christmas communication nostalgia. The first film, Key of Bell, makes you smile with its historic adventure – beginning with the first phone and travelling through the decades.
In the second film, the phrase, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, becomes a meme beginning with a clip of a returning WW11 soldier in a phone box to the poignantly modern message, “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams”. The commercial features vintage devices from the Bell archives, real-life couples, and stars a WWII veteran in the closing scene.
The campaign launched on December 2 with TV, outdoor, social media and even a TikTok featuring the cast singing, Ill Be Home for Christmas. “Because what are the holidays without a little singalong,” Zulu Alpha Kilo asks?
