Here’s a brief you’ve never been given: “Create something famous.” And here’s a campaign budget you never want to be given: $US 1,000.
Three of BBH Barn’s 2015 interns pressed on, nonetheless. And now they’re famous. For their big idea – tiny billboards.
Yolanda Saetern (strategic planning intern), Alan Sanchez (strategic planning intern)and Jeff Tepper (creative intern)’s big idea was Small Billboards for Big Causes.
The trio took on all the big issues – human trafficking, access to safe water, air pollution…and pitched them to nonprofit organisations. Some signed on to be part of the project.
Gaining PETA was a coup. The killing of Cecil the Lion (aka, stop trophy animal imports) is a hot potato. UNICEF also became a partner and was given small billboards for education for girls.
The intern’s Small Billboards for Big Causes are on display in cities through the world like New York, Sydney, London, Chicago, Mexico City, Berlin and Sao Paulo.
The eight week BBH summer internship program is drawing to a close now. The trio have been stating that they’d like to continue working on the project tackling big causes, but they need more ‘big partners’ to get on board.
“It’s an amazing feeling when an established brand like PETA is taking something we did and posting it to their social media channels, and it’s amazing to know that you can help such a big cause,” Tepper stated.
