France has just been introduced to Colonel Sanders by Sid Lee, and the US has just been introduced to (yet another) new Colonel Sanders by Wieden + Kennedy Portland. W+K has been having fun with Colonel Sanders impersonators since 2015.
The new US Colonel Sanders is not just any woman. She’s the sassy, funny country music star and actor, Reba McEntire.
But you might take a little while to work that out in her ad…the real Reba McEntire also features.
McEntire belts out a song in which she declares that she, or Colonel Sanders, is definitely not a woman, and extols the virtues of “her” Smoky Mountain BBQ fried chicken.
McEntire is the first female Colonel Sanders, but the 11th to play the role in an ad. The first impersonator was Darrell Hammond in 2015, followed by Norm Macdonald, Jim Gaffigan, George Hamilton, Rob Riggle, Vincent Kartheiser, Billy Zane, Rob Lowe and Ray Liotta.
