One of SNCF’s foundational purposes is ‘‘to offer everyone the freedom to easily move around while preserving the planet.”
TBWA\Paris has turned that into a new year campaign that thanks SNCF passengers who, by taking the train, avoid inflicting millions of tons of CO2 on nature. The film mirrors a fireworks display, the traditional new year welcome. The fireworks are beautiful flowers shown bursting into full blossom.
5 images were taken every 5 seconds, day and night – a total of 14,000 images per flowers. These were then recreated into a time lapse film. 50 varieties of flowers and more than 200 hours of shots were necessary for the filming.
TBWA\Paris’ campaign message for SNCF is that taking the train means being a responsible citizen and doing something for the benefit of the planet.
Trains give off 30 times less CO2 than individual cars and 20 times less than planes. The 5 million people in Paris who choose the train each day mean there’s 5 million tonnes less CO2 in the environment.
The film was produced by Eddy and directed by Caravane, and is running on TV in a 30-second version as well as in several 15-second versions online. A 45-second version is being screened in cinemas.
This is the first time that SNCF has spoken out about a theme in which they are particularly involved, the train being the most environmentally responsible mode of public transportation. The SNCF Group, for a number of years, has been developing sustainable transport solutions which are accessible to everyone.
The group is committed to transitioning from diesel-powered rail by 2035, to developing stations that are autonomously powered and to fighting against the individual use of cars.
