Chanel is known for making commercials with big names – on both sides of the camera (including Australian director, Baz Luhrmann and Australian actor, Nicole Kidman). This time current global heartthrob, Timothée Chalamet, is the star and Hollywood directorial legend, Martin Sorcese is the director. Actress, Havana Liu Rose, has a smaller role.
The excitement for the 90-second commercial for Chanel men’s fragrance, Bleu, began nearly a year ago with “leaked” behind-the-scenes images. It has been teased by Chalamet and Scorcese every few months since then. The commercial, shot mostly in black & white in New York features Chalamet in a vast range of classic actor situations.

The film’s synopsis reads: The new BLEU DE CHANEL film is an invitation to discover the many facets of a man who is forging his own path. An actor’s conflict between celebrity and staying true to himself. A dialogue between Timothée Chalamet’s artistic sensibility and Martin Scorsese’s virtuosity.
The pressure for Scorcese, he has admitted in interviews, was to create a “Scorcese classic”, rather than and ad, in 90-seconds rather than three (or so) hours.
