Yesterday, D&AD also launched its Foundation Council, backed by agencies including Havas Worldwide, WPP, Leo Burnett, Wieden + Kennedy and BBH. Initiatives driven by the Foundation Council will aim to tackle the lack of diversity and gender balance head on, ensuring anyone with talent can succeed in the creative industry.
The inaugural Foundation Council will work on three projects in the first year:
- The D&AD Curriculum: Each year the Council will use D&AD’s Festival to co-create an inspiring and challenging curriculum based on the themes of the year’s Awards. Over the next 3 years the D&AD curriculum will develop into a fully integrated series of free courses, available globally and equipping people with the skills required to drive careers forward.
- Investing in Talent: A fund to support people who come through New Blood and lack the finance to fulfill their potential or realise their ideas. Support will include bursaries and prototype funding.
- New Blood Shift: A new programme to find creative excellence and support those people into employment so that anyone with the talent can succeed. A free 12-week night school will equip a diverse group of young people who haven’t been through the traditional route of university with the skills they need to enter the creative industries, provide them with mentoring and offer the opportunity of paid placements.
