BBDO New York has won the inaugural Super Clio for the best commercial in the 2015 Super Bowl, with its Brady Bunch version of You’re not you when you’re hungry.
The Clio judges chose the commercial for “originality, innovation and stand-out celebrity cameos”. Snickers released a Super Bowl teaser on January 21 and the full 30-second spot on January 29 as promised, when the ad ticked up the 2.5 million hits in social media Snickers requested to show the ad before the Super Bowl kick-off on February 1.
The creatives behind the new ad are BBDO executive creative directors, Peter Kain and Gianfranco Arena. They’ve worked on Snickers since its 2010 Super Bowl debut with Betty White. This year’s ad marked a return to the Super Bowl for Snickers after a 3 year break.
The three other Clio Creative Bowl finalists were:
• Loctite’s Positive Feelings by Fallon, Minneapolis
[This was the (unofficial) media favourite too. Here’s the dance remix reason why:]
• Always‘ #LikeAGirl by Leo Burnett, Chicago
• No More’s official NFL Super Bowl ad by Grey, New York
McCann Worldgroup global creative chairman, Rob Reilly, who came up with the idea for Clio Creative Bowl and was one of its judges, observed, “It’s really difficult to create a version of the same campaign every year and to keep it freshWhile you can say you’ve seen a similar version of the Snickers creative before, we should also applaud the fact that they found a way to keep it fresh and inventive.”
Meanwhile, Leo Burnett won the hearts of the man on the street (and Twitter) with Acts of Loving.
The McDonald’s ad achieved 634,310 mentions during the game for its ad promising free Maccas in return for “acts of loving” like phoning mum, doing a dance, telling a friend you love them…
To qualify, mentions had to include the brand name, the brand Twitter account, a product name, a hashtag and a subject or celebrity featured in the ads.
Leo Burnett also won second place in the Twitter game, this time with 455,695 mentions for its Always “#LikeAGirl” ad.
Anomaly’s Lost Dog ad for Budweiser, topped Unruly’s Super Bowl viral chart with 2,281,071 shares, and came 3rd in the Twitter game with 371,900 mentions.
