New to Curious’ roster, James K Lowe brings a photographer’s eye to directing. A greatly applauded photographer’s eye.
He was one of just thirty photographers invited to exhibit at the 2011 Paris Photo Quai Biennale and won an Auckland Festival of Photography commission shortly after. From his start in fashion, Lowe accumulated a large number of editorial and advertising credits, working with fashion brands Top Shop, New Balance, Lonely, Karen Walker, twenty-seven-names, Huffer and Georgia Alice and magazines, Black, i-D, Viva, Remix, Nylon.
His commercial work has taken him to the US, Europe and throughout Asia. Lowe’s photography has also been shown at solo and group exhibitions both in New Zealand and at photography festivals globally. Lowe was Lorde’s boyfriend for more than two years until 2017 and has created a portfolio of personal and professional photographs of her that capture both her individuality and her charisma.
He has become known for creating poetically stunning visuals and uses his remarkable eye for detail to bring this quality to his directing work as well as his photography. These qualities are evident in his 2017 music video, Fit In, for rapper, David Dallas.
“Motion has always gone hand in hand with my work, directly or indirectly it’s been a part of my process,” Lowe commented.
“I’m looking forward to exploring the depth of film even more so with Curious, and to be part of its innovative team.”
Kate Roydhouse, managing director and executive producer of Curious Film, noted, “I’ve long admired James’ work and work ethic – his approach is fresh, meticulous and visually enticing.”
