It’s kinda obvious but the opening lines (and titles) of the behind-the-scenes video spell out the (alleged) thinking behind Droga5’s 2015 Newcastle Super Bowl season campaign anyway:
“Newcastle Brown Ale will do anything to get an ad into the big game…
“…except pay four million dollars.
“So when a certain snack chip brand offered to air one lucky fan’s big game ad for free…
“…we made a Newcastle ad perfectly disguised as a user-generated snack chip ad.”
A few days after Pepsico announced its ten 2015 Doritos Crash the Super Bowl finalists, Droga5 released Chores.
With its broad humour and bleeping over the word, Doritos, the ad weaves itself, as an extension, into last year’s If We Made It campaign with its fake teaser and online films that starred Anna Kendrick and Keyshawn Johnson whingeing about their ads that never got made.
With its blatant product placement, Chores is even funnier.
And, with its perfectly sculpted voiceover, Chores’ behind-the-scenes video is wittier, cleverer and more appealing than the ad itself.
