Engine Room Productions, has made its first piece of original entertainment – an online comedy short film called Lowering Awareness.
Engine Room Productions managing director Adrian Hyde, commented, “With the converging media landscape we believe that in the future not only brands but channels will be our clients and they will be looking for an eclectic mix of original content.
“Our multi-disciplinary creative hub model involves focusing on our people – it’s about empowering them and their creativity while they simultaneously deliver for our clients.”
What’s the film about? In the creators’ own words, “A group of passionate yet incompetent do-gooders, concerned with the dangerously high level of awareness of things we don’t need to know about in the world today (e.g. Kardashians), launch a campaign to “lower awareness”. After several failed attempts, their campaign hits a dangerous crossroads as it begins to heighten awareness of the very thing it was designed to lower. Will this intrepid group succeed or fail?”
Those creators were writer/director and lead creative at Engine Room Productions, Damien Cassar, and writer/actor, Mark Humphries, who also plays the lead role. Humphries is known to Australians through his appearances on ABC2’s The Roast and SBS’s The Feed.
The pair began working on the script’s development back in August last year.
“This experience heightened my awareness of the dangers of writing about lowering awareness,” Cassar said.
“I wasn’t aware I was involved in this project. Job well done, lowering awareness team!” Humphries added.
