Baby boomers know nothing about anything. But Gen X no longer rules the universe. You’re too old. Production company, Adolescent, has found a foothold, representing directors 13-25 years of age.
Consider this launch statement a challenge: “In an industry inhabited by those who are trying to force-fabricate content that “speaks” to youth culture, Adolescent is the real deal: its roster dedicated to the representation and mentorship of bright young directorial tastemakers aged 13 – 25 years old for commercials, music videos and social media content. Adolescent’s pack of savant directors (filmmakers, photographers, illustrators and visual effects wunderkinds) collectively generates work with an energetic and fresh point of view, free of adult encumbrances such as cynicism or rules.
The new companyis the satellite venture of Splendid and Co (formerly known as Trio) and is run by creative director, Ramaa Mosley and executive producer, Hope Farley.
“I started directing when I was sixteen years old and a senior in high school,” Mosley stated. “By the time I was in college, I was working professionally directing commercials and music videos. When my music videos aired on MTV, I started receiving calls from high schools students who wanted me to mentor them! I would say ‘yes’ to every student looking for a mentor. For years I have been working with young film makers on my shoots. I’m inspired by their enthusiasm and excitement because it reminds me of myself. Starting Adolescent is a dynamic and productive next step in my evolution as a director and as a human who wants to help others achieve their creative dreams.”

The aim of Adolescent is to be the go-to place for credible creators of youth culture content.
“The most exciting thing about this venture for me is that it has never been done,” Farley remarked. “Who better to speak to young people than their peers? Hiring the very young to direct commercials is uncharted territory in advertising, though it’s a wild success in the photo industry. As we were building our roster, it became abundantly clear that the majority of our directors have been working at professional levels for years. They are more than ready. I constantly find myself in awe of how much they have been able to accomplish in their short lives.”
Adolescent’s launch in February this year has been noticed. Its Aussie director, Tim White, and directing duo, Nautico, have both been nominated for this year’s Cannes Young Director Award. 19 year old director, Ruben Barrientos, was profiled for Shoot Magazine’s New Directors Showcase. Adolescent recently produced a spot for Smarty Pants Vitamins, directed by 14-year old Lily Eliana Walsh, and it has signed filmmaker, Andrew Droz Palermo. Palermo’s documentary Rich Hill was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance earlier this year.
