Asian ad humour is zany, often bizarre, and hugely entertaining. It goes places western advertising rarely dares to venture. This commercial’s humour by Gigil Manila for drink brand, CoCo, is also delightfully human.
The brand’s lead product is milk tea, that comes in a cup with a plastic lid through which you stab the straw. The commercial positions the brand’s drinks as a source of stress relief and the metaphor it uses (for stabbing with the straw) is brilliant. If you can’t feel the catharsis yourself you are superhuman.
The film won almost 18M views across Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter, and around 800K engagements within its first 2 weeks.
