The La la land ad. Someone had to do it. And it turned out to be Crispin Porter + Bogusky for Hotels.com.
The ad is aptly cheesy on two counts. It stars Captain Obvious, Hotels.com mascot since 2014 and star of a string of presenter ads that combine obvious facts and corny humour to point out Hotels.com assets.
And it borrows from La La Land – which allowed the agency to go all out on the cheese factor while infusing the ads with a joyfulness that puts its audience in a holiday (or “damn, I need a holiday”) mood.
The song in the hero ad is Good Morning originally performed by Debbie Reynolds, Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor in the now classic, 1952 music film, Singin’ in the Rain.
Two more ads will launch before September. The campaign is running on digital platforms as bumpers, pre-rolls and curtain raisers for online content.
Of course, the ad made its debut on air appearance during Britain’s Got Talent.
