While David Nobay (Nobby) was waiting for the official launch of Marcel Australia, the soon-to-be creative chairman turned his passion for poetry into a series of beautiful art films that ran on Australia’s national broadcaster, the ABC’s, online iview platform.
In the ABC’s words, “Artbreaks is what happens when artists are given the space to breathe.”
Artbreaks is also what happens when adland’s creative talents pull together to create something on the side. Nobby gathered a crew of directors, editors and post-producers, all of whom were volunteers, to make the series.
One of the directors was Simon Lister, founder and creative director Nylon Studios.
For the last eight years, Simon Lister’s main passion on the side has been photography (his other is motorbikes). He has become spectacularly good at it.
Artbreaks was his first real go at directing. He is spectacularly good at that too.
Among Nobby’s many creative passions (and skills) is weaving people and ideas together. Artbreaks is just one of the amazing things that has come from that passion recently. Another is Simon Lister becoming global photographer for UNICEF.
The story of how that happened, what it means and why these two creatives at the top of their professions spend their free time creating is told in the video below, sponsored by Flint Productions, Alt.vfx and Arc Edit.
The story of Artbreaks is told in the interview Nobby did with The Stable earlier this year:
David Nobay: The last thing we need is someone trying to do more of the same
