Director and actor (and everything else in between), Jonah Hill, shows off what he can do in adidas’ new campaign, Change is a Team Sport, by Johannes Leomardo. And adidas shows off who it can pull in to endorse the cool of its Superstar sneaker – skater, Jenn Soto; British artist, Blondey McCoy; Pharrell Williams; Fortnite streamer, Ninja; K-pop group , Blackpink; Brazilian singer, Anitta; actress, Yara Shahidi; actor & dancer, Mette Towley and street style guru, Kerwin Frost, among them. The Superstar sneaker was created after the 1969 NBA championship series.
The new ad is first in a series of adidas initiatives throughout the year, in which adidas brings together “games-changers” from the worlds of music, fashion, sport, and art, to build on its idea of using teamwork to create and inspire positive change…which seems like a natural evolution of adidas’ Here To Create, which began in February 2016.
“Activities are about to commence,” Hill says as the film’s voiceover. “Before they do, I just want to say, ‘Let’s remember why we’re here.’ We’re here to change things. We can all do amazing things on our own, but together, we can do so much more.”
Torben Schumacher, general manager of adidas Originals, explained, “Change Is a Team Sport celebrates the idea that when creators join together, we can drive and inspire change. Much like the way the adidas Superstar has been the shoe for game-changing creators and teams for 50 years and counting, we’ve looked to our adidas family to inspire the next generation and create a new legacy for one of the most iconic shoes of all time.”
The short film made its debut during the 62nd Grammy Awards on January 26.
“There’s no knowledge without the older generation who did it first,” Hill commented. “And there’s no change or progression without the new generation. So if those two generations come together, I feel like that creates the atomic charge for great art and great creativity.”
