The 23rd Melbourne International Design Week, begun by Ken Cato in 1991, is going to be its most international ever. And agIdeas is contributing rather a lot of its global mien.
The landmark event this year will be a three day forum called Look Upstairs, put together by agIdeas and Arts Centre Melbourne and curated by Ken Cato, founder of agIdeas and Cato Brand Partners.
It’s all about the inspiration and ingenuity of some of the world’s leading original thinkers, using state of the art technology and informative multimedia. 40 speakers from 20 nations will share the knowledge they’ve collected about how design is explored, developed and interpreted.
Of course, the event is for professionals. Knowledge is the power to keep winning the best projects. It’s also for students, educators, researchers and design enthusiasts. When knowledge is shared it can grow and develop.
“Look Upstairs is a one off opportunity for the community to absorb and embrace various aspects of design whilst learning about, and appreciating, a high standard of creative talent. In support of Melbourne International Design Week, this event will showcase the trends and inspirations driving the local and global design community.
“I hope that this event makes for a stronger and better profession, encourages new ways to think about design and highlights how design can be applied to business. Ideally Look Upstairs attracts enough attention to demonstrate the importance of design in our daily lives and the contribution design makes to our vibrant, prosperous city,” Cato stated.
Sarah Hunt, executive, programming, marketing and media, Arts Centre Melbourne added, “We’re delighted to host the largest gathering of international and local design and creative talent at Hamer Hall, in what truly is a world-class networking opportunity. The Arts Centre Lawn will be transformed into a Design Hub during Melbourne International Design Week and Look Upstairs adds to that experience by helping us nurture a strong design culture, against a gorgeous backdrop, in the heart of our city.”
