In Sydney, the hot new way to ride a taxi is by UberX. In Norway, it’s by M&C Saatchi.
Norway’s airline, Norwegian, wanted to promote its direct long haul flights. One of these is to New York. So M&C Saatchi Stockholm and production company, Stopp, gave Oslo’s shoppers the chance to tour New York in a cab – virtually – the campaign message being that New York City is closer than ever with Norwegian’s direct flights.
An interactive digital screen was set up in one of Oslo’s biggest shopping malls. It connected to a Norwegian red cab – driving through the streets of New York. Users could talk to the cabbie and he to them. So they could direct him to create their own sightseeing tours of NYC, and he could give them interesting stories, information and funny anecdotes to make sure they enjoyed the ride. People could also control a special 360° live stream camera on the roof of the car so they could see the sights as if they were there.
