Travel guide books have existed for decades. But never like Xbox’s. Xbox has launched a travel guide for virtual travellers. A guide to its world.
The idea comes from McCann London, expanding the campaign it began in April last year to position the Xbox world as a travel destination.
The book joins the Rough Guide series, and details the wonders to be found in games such as Halo 5: Guardians, Metro Exodus and Forza Horizon 4, with photos shot by professional in-game photographers and travel tips.
“Some of the ancient ruins, national monuments and natural wonders in Xbox games are every bit as goosebump-y, bucket list-y, and worth seeking out as those in the real world,” explained Sanjiv Mistry and Jamie Mietz, executive creative directors at McCann London.
“So it’s only fitting that there’s now a Rough Guide to Xbox, a vital tool to help people plan their trips to game worlds just as they would to any other destination.”
The book launched on January 30 at London Olympia’s Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show, which is the UK’s biggest holiday and travel event. The guide will be available for gamers via the online Microsoft store from February 5. Later in the year, it will also be available as an e-book. All proceeds from the guide go to Special Effect, a charity that modifies tech to make gaming more accessible for people with physical disabilities.
