The UK loves McCann UK’s Kevin the Carrot. Like Santa, the Aldi Christmas hero only makes an appearance once a year, at Christmas. Unlike Santa, who has been around since 1863, Kevin has only turned up for three Christmases, but he is so popular that he is causing havoc at Aldi stores this year. People are lining up and tension is erupting into spats as people try to buy the plush toy versions of Kevin.
Both the big (£19.99 ) and small (£3.99) versions are sold out on Aldi’s website. Twitter users are letting Aldi know they have an impatient Kevin fan base. Aldi has had to limit purchases per person.
This year, Kevin stars in a whole collection of fairy-tales, again narrated by actor, Jim Broadbent. In the first, Kevin The Carrot and the Wicked Parsnip (perhaps a subtle Harry Potter reference there), Kevin has to ward off the insidious attack of jealous nemesis, Pascal the Parsnip.
This story will be followed by Kevin the Carrot and Pea-nocchio, Katie the Carrot and the Fairy Cake Mother and Kevin the Carrot and RhubarbStiltskin.
