Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot has been an integral part of the Christmas ad line-up since 2016. It looks as though he’s going to be the star of Aldi’s Christmas campaign again this year. McCann UK has launched a 40-second teaser ad in which he stars.
What is grabbing attention, though, is that Kevin is driving a truck that looks very much like the Coca-Cola Christmas truck (except that it’s orange, rather than red and Kevin the Carrot is written on it, instead of Coca-Cola).
In fact, the Aldi teaser has a lot of similarities to the 2016 Coke Christmas ad in which the truck was introduced – the same year that Kevin made his debut. And its music sounds rather like Coke’s The Holidays are Coming song.

There’s also a movie reference, like the three in Aldi’s last Christmas commercial. The truck skids in the snow and ends up hanging perilously over a cliff in the style of the Italian Job. (Did you get the cliffhanger allusion?) Last year’s ad contained references to Murder on the Orient Express, Love Actually and The Bodyguard.
McCann: Aldi brings Kevin the Carrot back for another Christmas adventure
The teaser is being spread with the hashtag, #SaveKevin.
Coca-Cola GB has used the ad in the spirit of Christmas, which is about sharing after all.
