There’s a new trend in clubland, now that cocktails are “totally” mainstream. Stocktails are top of the pops with those of drinking age who know what’s what.
So Mother is reminding its fast food fans that KFC’s famous gravy is so good you can drink it, by introducing the KFC gravy-based cocktail. There’s The Gravy Mary – it’s bloody good, The Southern Twist – it’s all gravy, baby, and The Fingerlickin’ Sour – a sweet ride on the gravy train.
Marion Racine, marketing manager at KFC UK & Ireland, noted, “Our fans repeatedly express their love for our gravy, which always sparks ideas within the team. We know our gravy is good enough to drink – so with stocktails being a real hit at the moment, what better ingredient to take them to the next level?”
Despite the thousands of fast food ads in the world on any day, I bet you’ve never seen one like this:
The campaign is made up of a series of online videos shared via KFC’s channels in the UK and Ireland, the hero spot introducing KFC’s mixologist and the concept of KFC gravy cocktails, and three recipe spots – each a KFC twist on a classic cocktail.
Patrick, the mixologist who led the development of the recipes, commented, “When KFC came to me with the idea of creating genuine gravy cocktails, based on the growing trend of stocktails, I just couldn’t resist. The key was to find flavours and ingredients which perfectly complemented the distinctive taste of KFC gravy. For example, the Kentucky bourbon in The Southern Twist brings mellow, sweet spice notes to stand up against the savoury gravy. The herbal note of parsley on the rim brightens the sip with the brown sugar softening the kick of bourbon and uniting the flavours.”
Hermeti Balarin, partner at Mother added, “From extensive research and testing, we discovered the handy fact that KFC gravy is, literally, good enough to drink. All a happy coincidence when we’re approaching the end of January.”
