The first, and clearly most important, topic at Tribal Worldwide Australia’s offical launch was the airbnb logo which, by the way, is called the Belo. Adpeople are always interested in one another’s work.
Do come back to read The Stable’s interview with Tribal in a few days. Meanwhile, here’s the all important airbnb update.
The new airbnb philosophy, Belong Anywhere, seems to be apt. Half the room thought the logo looks like a dick and balls, the other half thought it looks like girlie bits – top and bottom ones.
Either way, the whole world knows airbnb’s name, which is a pretty good result for a logo change. How often does a new logo get a star role in the world’s news media.
And founder and chief executive officer of airbnb, Brian Chesky, may well be ruing or rejoicing about the message he sent to his customers, depending on his entrepreneurial spirit:
“Like us, you may have started out thinking you were just renting out a room to help pay the bills,’ Chesky said in a message aimed at Airbnb users.
“Or maybe you were just booking a bed for a night on an unexpected layover. However, we first entered this community, we all know that getting in isn’t a transaction. It’s a connection that can last a lifetime.”
Comments have been flooding the Twittersphere. And some very clever (ok, rude) Belo doodles are filling a Tumblr page. But a bloke called Brett Domino has created, “Just a quick song about the new Airbnb logo.” And that deserves to be the last word on the subject.
