Absolut has created an app, Buddy Check, that keeps friends together on matter how big the night out gets.
Let’s assume that you don’t want to lose your friends when you’re clubbing or at a concert.
Buddy Check begins when you and friends download and activate the app. You tap your phones together to link them and the geolocation functionality then allows you and your friends to see each other’s location. Throughout the night, the app will randomly ask you to do a Buddy Bump for which you need to find a specific person and tap his/her phone with yours. If you are able to fulfill the task within the allotted time, you will be awarded points.
The app also uses A-GPS to pinpoint a buddy’s exact location and sends alerts when the person crosses a virtual geofence.
And for fun, there are safe drinking behaviour tips on the app – such as drinking plenty of water.
You can communicate with your friends using Buddy Message via the app too.
Buddy Check is free for Apple and Android from the iTunes store. Privacy is guaranteed as all GPS-data is deleted when you log out or end game and no data is uploaded or stored.
“We wanted a way to address that peer pressure and alcohol together can lead to binge drinking,” stated Paula Eriksson, a vice-president of Absolut parent company, Pernod Ricard.
“Buddy Check gives you the opportunity to use the group dynamic in positive and responsible way when going out with friends.”A
