…But not like this.
Saatchi & Saatchi got everyday drivers to sing in a Toyota Yaris, and added the tagline, “Fall in love with driving again.” And another ad for a city car became a one-off about driving pleasure.
To create the Pan-European ad, S&S renamed the streets of Prague – giving each the title of a pop song. The Toyota Yaris stereo was fitted with a GPS-triggered music playlist. Each time the car entered a street, the song that corresponded to the street name began to play. Drivers could choose what to sing by selecting which route to drive. The best performers were selected to appear on the TV spot, that launched in Poland, UK, Czech Republic, Sweden, France, Hungary, Italy, Denmark, Germany and Spain on July 30.
English speaking audiences get the doubly funny hit of hearing lyrics like Blondie’s (Heart of Glass) reinterpreted.
Stéphane Rydlewski, campaign development for Toyota Motor Europe stated (what you may well have just thought to yourself), “Saatchi & Saatchi’s challenge was to bring to life the positive emotions felt when driving a Yaris Hybrid. And what is more natural when you feel good in a car, than to sing! The result speaks for itself. Pure emotion. Pure happiness and highly contagious; I must confess I can’t help but sing when I watch it.”
