Pornhub is probably doing exceptionally well right now. Isolation and porn are perfect partners. The company does, however provide other services – supporting several environmental needs last year.
Now it has partnered with director and conceptual artist, Ani Acopian; Grammy-nominated producer, writer, and engineer, Suzy Shinn; and web developer, Scott Buscemi to create Scrubhub – a site, just like Pornhub except that it’s dedicated to clean acts not porn acts – handwashing acts to be precise. Acopian and Shinn created the parody site Amazon Dating.
Don’t be fooled by the titillating titles. The site is full of videos of handwashing, each with a satirical title that mimics a porn title, but is about hand washing. Approved everyday users can upload their own handwashing videos. Pornhub brand ambassadors Asa Akira, Angela White and Austin Wolf are among those who have already done so.
If the number of views cited for each video is accurate (?!), the idea is absurdly successful.
The videos, which aim to reinforce the Covid-19 safety message are also sourcing donations for two charities: Invisible Hands, a volunteer organisation bringing food and essential supplies to at-risk communities in New York and New Jersey, and Frontline Foods, which provides healthy meals to clinicians in Los Angeles by partnering with local restaurants, who themselves are negatively impacted by the pandemic. Pornhub has also pledged to make the initial donation to these charities.
