On January 2 2016, Publicis Groupe will become four “solutions hubs” – creative, media, digital/technology and healthcare. Each will be led by a chief client officer.
It is no secret that Publicis has had another tough year. Now it has a new ambition, described by Publicis Groupe chief executive officer, Maurice Levy, in his statement as, “to be the admired force for business transformation driven through the alchemy of creativity and technology.”
“We have passed the 50% threshold of revenues stemming from digital. Yet, to better serve our clients we ourselves have to go the extra mile in our transformation journey. Clients want us to help them in many different areas – we have to differentiate their brands in a digital world. But they also expect more for less,” Levy stated in his announcement video.
The new Publicis hubs are:
Publicis Communications: led by new chief executive officer, Arthur Sadoun. This hub will include Publicis Worldwide, MSL, Nurun, Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, BBH, Marcel and production company, Prodigious.
Publicis Media: led by Steve King. It will include Starcom Mediavest, ZenithOptimedia, Vivaki, Performics, MRY and Moxie.
Publicis.Sapient: This is to be the the digital hub, led by Alan Herrick. It will include Sapient Consulting, SapientNitro, DigitasLBi and Razorfish.
Publicis Healthcare: led by Nick Colucci. This hub is a newly created area of expertise.
Each of the new hubs will have its own identity and brand name. Each will function as its own entity, with its own culture and approach to creativity and services. The hubs will have access to shared tools, platforms, and services. “This will simplify our process and reduce our costs, thus increasing our competitiveness without compromising the crux of our business,” Levy stated.
The performance of the company’s businesses will be judged on client service. Each client will be led by a chief client officer who will be responsible for all the group’s services and skills, across all disciplines and countries. The chief client officer teams will be supervised by a Publicis Groupe chief revenue officer. Starcom MediaVest chief executive officer, Laura Desmond will be the first to step into the role.
Each chief client officer will choose the right resources – skills, products, platforms, and digital tools his/her client needs – from any of the hubs.
A new entity, Publicis One, has been created. Levy explained, “We generate more than 90% of revenue from about 20 countries. Many countries don’t get the attention they deserve – we will now manage these countries through a dedicated unit called Publicis One, led as CEO by current Leo Burnett Asia-Pacific chairman and CEO, Jarek Ziebinski.” In Publicis One countries, all entities will be united under one roof and one management team.
