Shutterstock HQ (in New York) has just compiled its third annual global design trends infographic of visual trends that are either hot right now or look to be the next big thing.
Here are some appetisers to make you hungry before you click here to view it.
We’re all different. There is no single global design trend. In China, it’s all about pastel colours. France is having a love affair with black & white. In the Netherlands a fascination with vibrant textures dominates the canvas.
We’re all searching more for something. ‘Gatsby’ got us all excited. Its search rate rose 625%. 3D printing’s rose 583%. ‘Adorable’? Believe it or not, it was possible to search ‘adorable’ 450% more than we did in 2012.
Back to the art of letter writing. Handwritten or sketched fonts are set to have another turn in the limelight.
We’re all feeling flat. Flat, minimalist design elements replace skeuomorphism. Flat design elements benefited from changes in app and software design. Up 200%.
We like it to move. High quality video footage is the shooting star of visual downloads. White hot categories are cityscapes, 3D renderings, transportation and education.
Shutterstock licenses 3 images every second from a collection of over 30 million photos, illustrations, vectors and video clips to businesses and visual communicators.
“Businesses and storytellers are using images to communicate in more ways and across more channels than ever before,” Shutterstock vice president global communications, Meagan Kirkpatrick, reported. “From bright geometric patterns in Brazil to deconstructed classics in France, Shutterstock is seeing more diversity in visual communication trends than ever before.”
