The Glue Society is known for its superbly imaginative creative projects. Its lastest has been shortlisted for an Australian Architecture Award.
It’s the Glue Society’s new studio space on the Tasman Peninsula near Port Arthur, Tasmania. The studio was designed to create a living and working environment that supports and inspires artists, writers and the broader creative community.

The Glass House (as it is called) was designed by Thomas Bailey at Room11 Architects in Hobart – in partnership with The Glue Society – with construction by Elevate Building Tasmania. It was a labour of love that took three years to complete.
Jonathan Kneebone of The Glue Society, stated, “The Glass House is a remarkable, all-encompassing sensory experience. At a time when we all need a sense of escape, it provides a reminder of everything that should be important. A connection to nature. A connection to the elements. A chance to re-focus, re-charge, and re-arrange your perspectives. As a building and entity, it celebrates everything that is essential and nothing that is not. And by reducing time and space to its fundamentals – in a truly magical, transformative and awe-inspiring way – the space makes you feel entirely human again. For a creative individual, the space therefore provides an extraordinary sense of calm from which to dream, invent, think or simply be yourself.”

The site also features the first of what will be many sculptural works, set within the landscape – again designed by Thomas Bailey and The Glue Society. It is a water-filled space which removes everything but the sky from your viewpoint.

The property has already been featured in The Local Project magazine and Vogue Architecture – and later in the year, the creative collective will be unveiling Artist In Residence opportunities for young artists at The Glass House, in partnership with local and national cultural institutions.

In addition to the main jury awards, the property can be voted for within the Public Choice section of the Tasmanian Chapter of the 2021 Architecture Awards.
