It looks as though apartments.com has won the Super Bowl 50 “controversy prize” for its ad with L’il Wayne, which TMZ reported is being slammed for being racist.
Jeff Goldblum sings Ja’net Dubois’ uplifting anthem, Moving On Up, on a grand piano being hoisted up the side of an upper east side luxury apartment building in Manhattan.
That’s not causing criticism. It’s just a very clever – and entertaining – device to instil positivity in people about using the home search site. Goldblum is a man of many talents.
What is causing tongues to wag, according to TMZ (although it doesn’t specify whose tongues), is the scene at the top floor of the building. L’il Wayne is cooking for George Washington. George Washington used to own slaves.
No doubt, apartments.com is enjoying all the free media, even it isn’t focused on applauding a really great ad by its agency, RAP, that also happens to be apartments.com’s first Super Bowl ad.
Here is the story behind the ad.
