Last year, Peter Grasse accepted Curious’ award for Production Company of the Year, Asia Pacific. This year, he leads the expert discussion.
“Born in Pennsylvania, Peter Grasse has shaped Curious Film’s reputation as Asia-Pacific’s most dynamic production company since his arrival there in 2004…” Ciclope’s Q&A with Peter Grasse is a showcase of the Curious EP’s oddball blend of irreverent wit, nous and industry wisdom.
Standout works in ads, on shelf, in commercial creativity, in commercial creatives…and in the world of production. Grasse has standout in his blood.
Last year, Grasse brought the house down with the Ciclope International Festival of Craft preso that he says was off the cuff, ‘moments’ after a long plane flight. He also took home the award for Production Company of the Year, Asia Pacific on behalf of Curious Australian and New Zealand.
This year he is leading the panel of film experts in its discussion on Technology’s Toll: the Future of Film Craft in a Post-Digital Age at the Babylon theatre in Berlin.
Grasse will be joined on stage by three global creative talents: Sarah Barclay, executive creative director at JWT New York, Michael Hilliard, executive producer at Finch and Tony Petersen, founder and executive producer of TP Film Germany on Thursday 6 November.
The quartet will analyse whether advertising’s obsession with new technology has been detrimental to the art of film craft.
“How we choose to employ new technology in our crafting of commercial ideas is a timely topic for us all. High-tech solutions can either further or foul the overall strength of an idea, and, sometimes, even become the idea itself. It’s a pertinent subject promising to inspire a lively conversation,” Grasse commented.
Grasse was part of last year’s Ciclope Award Jury held at the Communist Party Theatre in East Berlin: “Honestly one of the best award show experiences of my career. Ciclope is a very special event that attracts passionate filmmakers celebrating their collective dedication to craft.”
This year’s jury panel includes:
Roman Coppola (director), Ringan Ledwidge (director), Georges Bermann (founder and chairman, Partizan France), Carlos Bayala (global creative director, Mother London), Andy Gulliman (worldwide film & content director, Saatchi & Saatchi)…
Ciclopes is the only international awards festival dedicated to the craft of film. “This is the 5th edition of the event, and we are really proud about the growth the festival has made lately. This year we received a record number of submissions and we managed to gather an amazing guest list. Plus, the quality of the submissions is superb, and Asia, Australia and NZ have had much to do with it. It’s a wonderful surprise to see how those regions have grown in the last few years. We are really interested in the phenomenon,” Francisco Condorelli, founder and director of the festival, noted.
