Daniel Brown is a director, writer, and storyteller. Who doesn’t fit a mould, although his best work messes with reality, blending in bits of fantasy and reverie. He loves colour…intense colour and incredibly rich images. But produces equally remarkable work in black & white. You might even guess that he began his career as a designer, at Digital Kitchen.
Daniel Brown has just been signed by design-led production company, Troublemakers.
Daniel Brown
His most recent work is a surreal fantasy called Color TV. No Vacancy. Forgive me for appropriating the voices of two real film critics. This work deserves their praise.
“Resplendent visually, Color TV, No Vacancy is a fever dream, a seedy, sexy jaunt down the rabbit hole (somewhat literally) of director Daniel Brown’s brain, exploring subconscious reimagining of fairytales and myths…” [Jason Sondhi, Short of the Week]
“Color TV, No Vacancy is Disney meets David Lynch, with a little bit of Nicolas Winding Refn for good measure. Brown’s film alternates from the ordinary, to the peculiar, to the outright supernatural, in a montage of fantastical delusions that will make you question what’s real and what is a dream. Some of his close-ups of completely inanimate objects are so vivid and crisp, you feel like you can touch the surfaces.” [Nathaniel Ainley, The Creators Project]
Curious to see it. Good. My job was done well. Here it is:
Brown is Emmy-nominated and has worked on a number of music videos as well as TVCs for a range of brands including Microsoft and Beats By Dre.
