Indonesian martial artist and action star, Joe Taslim, is known for his intense fight scenes in blockbusters such as The Raid: Redemption and Mortal Kombat. He is also a passionate gamer, but in the campaign by DDB Group Singapore and Google Play, he is thwarted time and time again.
This time he is playing a rookie gamer in a campaign about online safety that calls on dramatic action and brilliant humour to create a relatable story that keeps its gamer audience glued watching Taslim’s frustration and ultimately, triumphs.

The film, Play Protector Squad, invites gamers to shine as a member of Taslim’s protector squad, keeping him alive and in the game. To qualify, gamers must demonstrate their prowess and safety skills in a series of gripping challenges over a six-week period. Those with the highest scores will be selected for the Play Protector Squad and join Taslim for an all-expenses-paid trip to Jakarta.
The full campaign includes teaser videos, celebrity influencer engagements, and a dedicated website at goo.gle/protectorsquad. It is also the third in a series of successful campaigns by DDB Singapore and Google Play to solidify Google Play as the platform of choice among savvy gamers in Southeast Asia’s increasingly competitive gaming market. The campaign uses Google Play’s key advantage as a trusted platform that protects transactions and user data from online hacker traps, with features such as two-step verification for every purchase and industry-standard data encryption for payment information.

The two earlier campaigns were Level Up Ramadan with Google Play
… and Protect Your Play featuring Iko Uwais.
