Since she made her first short film, Morning Star, in 2010, Jessica Barclay Lawton has been collecting awards and kudos. Morning Star premiered at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland, and went on to screen at 20 festivals around the world. It won won Best Film and Best Director at the 2011 Malta International Short Film Festival, a Gold ACS Award and the 2010 National Kodak Filmschool Competition.
With her name established as an up-and-coming talent, she co-founded the filmmaker collective, Jerry Projects, with Rhys Mitchell. Lawton directed and co-produced the short film, We Keep On Dancing, which was nominated for the Grand Prix International Prize at Cork Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance Film Festival, and awarded Best Live Action (15 Minutes and Under) at the Palm Springs International Shortfest.
More recently, she has directed music videos for artists such as British India, Miles de Carteret and Montgomery, and branded content for Kirin Beer + Broadsheet, RMIT University and Cotton On. She has also produced music videos for Vance Joy, Owl Eyes and Jimmy Barnes.
Then Lawton made the webseries, Movement, supported by Screen Australia, which featured at Tribeca Film Festival and earned her huge acclaim.
Now, she is making an enthusiastic transition into commercials and content. And Truce Films has made an enthusiastic commitment to managing that.
Truce producer, Jim Wright, commented, “We’re really excited about Jess joining the team. Her talent as a visual storyteller is clearly evident in her narrative projects and I have no doubt that will translate into commercial work that resonates with an audience. Plus, she’s rad.”
