In early 2021, the Declaration of Independence of Costa Rica document was restored, but due to its deterioration during its 200 years, it was decided that it would never be shown to the public again. Havas Costa Rica and the Ministry of Culture, however, have brought it closer to all Costa Ricans in a very different way.
They created a typography based on each stroke of the handwriting on the Declaration of Independence of 1821. This typography commemorates the country’s 200 years of freedom.

How will it reach Costa Ricans? Well, Costa Rica projects itself to the world by promoting tourism, investments and exports, hand in hand with the Costa Rican culture and idiosyncrasy. Costa Rican companies are essential to it. So Havas is sending a typography kit to more than 600 essential Costa Rica licensed companies, explaining how to implement the typography within their communication and help to raise the pride of being Costa Rican.
“This is a project that will allow Costa Ricans to get closer to the essence of one of the most important historical documents for Costa Rica through design. They will even be able to write their names with the Letter of Independence, with Costa Rican Origin, one of the values of our Country Brand,” stated Daniel Valverde Bagnarello, country brand director for essential Costa Rica.
Also, anyone can go into the website esencialcostarica.com/escribiendolahistoria; where they will find the typography ready to be downloaded and used in their computer or phone to continue the commemoration.
