From time to time the best work happens when you give creatives nothing much to say. Madden NFL 16: Madden The Movie is THE case in point.
It’s four and a half minutes of insanity, by creative agency, Heat and director/writer Wayne McClammy, to announce the launch of yet another EA Sports football video game.
The classic 1980s action movie spoof is the story of Blade Johnson (Dave Franco), whose girlfriend Trish (AJ Lee from WWE) gets kidnapped by an evil villain. He demands that Franco play him in an NFL game. Blade and his friend, Janet (Superbad’s Christopher Mintz Plasse) recruit a team of real life NFL stars to help get her back. These include Half Top (New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski), Trick Montalban (Atlanta Falcons wide receiver, Julio Jones), Sticky Bun (Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Antonio Brown), Lil Pepper (Buffalo Bills coach, Rex Ryan) and a blind Al Pacino from Scent Of A Woman (San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick).
And if you think, this ad with awards in its eyes is a one hit wonder, the same team – agency, Heat; director, Wayne McClammy and production company, Hungry Man, created Madden 15, that won 1 Gold Lion and 1 Silver Lion at Cannes this June.
Heat’s The Giferator for EA Sports also won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Lions at Cannes with digital agency, Grow, and Google Creative Partnerships.
Sit on the edge of your chair and enjoy Madden NFL 16: Madden The Movie:
Vice president of EA Sports’ global creative team, Dana Marineau, commented, “This just takes things to another over-the-top level. Our goal is always to create something fans will love and want to be a part of, and this is just a reflection of who our audience is and the world we live in. Madden has the swagger and cultural relevance in football that allows us to have fun with the brand and put this kind of content out into the world.”
