French rapper, Booba (real name: Élie Thitia Yaffa) is the most legally download singer in French history, despite – or perhaps because of – his penchant for controversial lyrics. His new single, 6G, has been given an equally provocative video by director, Fred De Pontcharra, and production company, MYND c/o Wanda, with local production company, Mr+Positive Tokyo, shot in Japan.
The song’s themes include power dynamics, resistance, societal issues, personal struggles, and the drive for success. It critiques traditional systems and explores the complexities of human nature, ultimately encouraging listeners to think critically, question authority, and maintain their individuality in a world full of deception and manipulation.
Both the lyrics and video are full of metaphors – and anger. In the first verse, for instance, Booba warns about being cautious of those who desire power and control, even suggesting that one should question their own siblings. The reference to a pirate flag in Tampa represents rebellion and non-conformity, implying that some people’s thoughts and ideas are insignificant and do not have a lasting impact. The second verse begins with the provocative statement that life is a “salope” (a derogatory term for a woman), comparable to reality TV personality, Maeva Ghennam needing to change her behaviour. The song concludes with references to Kobe Bryant, using his jersey colours to illustrate the contrasting aspects of life, as well as his own personal growth and success.
Local production support was provided by Mr+Positive Tokyo, the Japanese production service company known for its dedication to crafted excellence. The company handled everything from casting and
location scouting to set decoration and stunt coordination.
Peter Grasse, founding producer at Mr+Positive commented, “It was an honour to collaborate with a director and director of photography of such calibre. The Japanese team is thrilled with the final result, and we are proud to have played a part in
bringing this vision to fruition. That’s Positive!”
