Rapid has made the US its oyster with a strategic partnership that gives it access to the bricks and mortar infrastructure and production resources of Los Angeles production company, Joinery.
In return, Rapid will provide Joinery with its specialised VR expertise and cutting edge technology.
Joinery’s executive producer and co-founder, Gerard Cantor, commented, “When we decided to find a VR/360º partner, we knew we wanted the best because ultimately the next level of storytelling would have to compliment Joinery’s offering. Rapid VR isn’t just the best in the game but as importantly, they share the same vision and philosophy as us at Joinery, giving us the confidence of delivering the best existing immersive content to agencies and brands.”
Rapid launched its VR arm in October 2014 and has already built a portfolio of effective VR and 360º content with clients such as Samsung, Lexus, Audi, GoPro, Coors Light and Qantas. To date Rapid’s work has reached a view count in excess of 65 million. Its Samsung and World Surf League film, Get Barreled in Tahiti, has achieved more than 22 million views online.
Susannah Phillips, executive producer and founder of Rapid VR, stated, “The partnership with Joinery makes perfect sense for us, they have a great team, the infrastructure and driven commitment to producing high quality and award winning work for their clients. The synergies between our two businesses are clear.”
The new alliance will provide full end-to-end production, from technical design through creative direction to post production and delivery.
The partnership will also give Joinery a major advantage in the US as Rapid has always invested heavily in R&D and specialised production techniques, and offers a huge cache of customised rigging and 360-degree cameras (including stereoscopic) to capture all kinds of experiences for clients. It has achieved cinematic quality virtual experiences as varied as being inside the mouth of a great white shark to flying with wingsuit pilots over the Great Wall of China.
