In the past year, Riley Blakeway has been nominated for a Kinsale Shark for his short film, From the Same, and has racked up more than half a dozen Vimeo staff picks. He has directed shorts and commercials for Corona, Nike, Red Bull, Quicksilver, Wrangler, Monster Children & Skull Candy.
Blakeway is just 26 years of age. He became a commercial filmmaker at 19, is an accomplished professional photographer…and has just joined Robber’s Dog.
His films have been shown in festivals around the world including SXSW, The New York Surf Film Festival, The 2012 Vimeo awards and the Semi Permanent 2014 Short Film Showcase in Sydney.
“We’re thrilled to have Riley on board. He’s the next generation of film-maker; a content superstar who makes films that people really love, whether they’re shorts or commercials. He’s got boundless potential that we can’t wait to explore,” noted George Mackenzie, managing director at Robber’s Dog.
Blakeway has his own way of seeing the world and a penchant for filming in natural light. His signature style is built around evocative sound and image combinations and has already attracted attention for his beautiful cinematography and captivating soundscapes.
“I try to use sound and visuals in my work to create an experience – give people a sense of being there, communicate ideas and evoke feelings. It’s a gratifying way to make films and I’d definitely like to keep making branded shorts. Working with Robber’s Dog I’ll be developing this style for broader commercial work and storytelling through a more constructed narrative,” he commented.
