While an exuberant throng of music, advertising and production people got together at Squeak E. Clean Studios last night to give the two-month-old merger the welcome it deserves, Squeak E. Clean Studios co-executive creative director, Sam Spiegel, was working. He entertained the crowd with a live DJ set. Happily, it’s what Spiegel loves doing. Happily – because he only arrived in Sydney four days ago and takes off in another three to work with director, Michel Gondry, in Slovenia, before he returns to L.A.
And because The Stable interviewed Spiegel and co-executive creative director, Simon Lister, between their studio sessions on Tuesday, I can attest to the fact that Spiegel has already done a lot of working this week, day and night.
“We have about 50 jobs in progress throughout the world right now,” Lister noted, “and about fifty more waiting in the wings.
Clearly, the merger of Nylon Studios and Squeak E. Clean has been inordinately successful.
Lister took a break last night to host but he is off to his Chicago office shortly.
The party’s success did not rely entirely on Spiegel though. L.A. artist and rapper, Doja Cat, gave a live performance. Someone at Squeak E. Clean had organised a magnificently starry night, wedged between a day that was 27 degrees and one that was going to be 33 degrees, as well as a perfect crescent moon. And a silver ‘60s food truck parked in Squeak E. Clean’s back yard handed out hamburgers and chips to those who expected to be fed as well as entertained.
Welcome to the world, Squeak E. Clean Studios.
