Government advertising can be horribly wrong. The Secret Little Agency (TSLA) has got its government advertising so right. The campaign, for Enterprise Singapore, the government agency championing enterprise development, is hilariously bizarre and hugely entertaining.
The first commercial, Never Doubt a Duck, features a real duck – who stands in for the creators of real-life Singapore medtech startup, Lucence, and its early cancer detection technolongy. The duck narrates its story of rejection, how it contended with being disregarded and disbelieved by all, until Enterprise Singapore appears as its hero (actually a heroine called Amy). The story’s epilogue notes that Lucence is now going global with its cancer detection tech to save lives around the world.
The second spot, The Mermaid’s Market, is a little less slick, a little more government-y [read: awkward] – until it reveals that the father and daughter are a merman and mermaid. The pair represent Tankfully Fresh, a fish market business. The daughter wants to digitise the business; the father can only see hardship. Its epilogue reveals that after the company went digital it grew from a stall in Bukit Batok to an online seafood marketplace.
